The Energy Institute is operated under the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at Colorado State University. The Institute builds on the long history of work in energy at CSU and is intended to foster greater collaboration among energy faculty across all eight colleges with broad access to new facilities for faculty and industry partners. This position resides at Powerhouse, an energy focused campus north of CSU main campus. This is an industrial working environment. The Institute is dedicated to providing safe, secure, and sophisticated facilities for university investigators and industry partners to collaboratively research clean energy in all facets of society.

Position Summary

The Energy Institute is creating a position to serve as Project Manager at new research site. The Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) has awarded a CSU team about $3.5 million over three years to create and operate the facility, which will simulate a broad range of natural gas production systems for testing technologies in real-world industry conditions. The site will allow research teams from all over the U.S. to test new technologies for enhanced methane sensing. All the teams, including CSU’s, are funded under the ARPA-E MONITOR (Methane Observation Networks with Innovative Technology to Obtain Reductions) program.

We need a technician to oversee the plant operations. The site will allow research teams from all over the U.S. to test new technologies for enhanced methane sensing.
• Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of project
• Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
• Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
• Ensure resource availability and allocation
• Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
• Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques, and abiding by state and federal standards
• Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
• Regular reporting to principal investigator, Energy Institute Business Office and others as needed.
• Perform risk management to minimize project risks
• Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors

Required Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5-years of experience in lead project management role, with strong record of responsible financial management.
• Experience managing complex research projects and long-range project coordination.
• Demonstrated communication ability, both written and verbal presentation skills.
• Highly motivated individual with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple complex projects in an organized, efficient manner.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Project Management Certificate
• Experience working closely and independently with administrators of institutions and/or leaders of science programs, organizations or initiatives on a local national and/or international scale.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills to successfully work with diverse groups.
• Experience with establishing and adhering to policies and procedures.
