Director of Teaching and Learning

Edinburgh Business School

Competitive Salary

Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is the Graduate School of Business of Heriot-Watt University.  It is a leading provider of Masters and Doctoral programmes to a truly international student cohort drawn from 166 countries.  With nearly 12,000 current students and 20,000 alumni, its flexible, academically rigorous programmes remain popular and consistently attract exceptional talent.  In September 2016 Professor Heather McGregor was appointed as Executive Dean to EBS, thereby marking a new chapter in the School’s history.  The new Director of Teaching and Learning will work with Professor McGregor and the Executive team to develop the EBS profile and provision even further, thereby playing a critical role in the advancement of a global brand.

The Director of Teaching and Learning will represent EBS at an Institutional level, taking responsibility for the definition and implementation of the Teaching and Learning Strategy. She or he will ensure pedagogical excellence is maintained across the School’s diverse range of provision, harnessing the potential of new technologies and further developing intellectual capital for the benefit of students and faculty alike. This will include playing a key role in EBS’ management team, as well as the management of a significant, international cohort of staff and examiners.

PhD qualified, the successful candidate will have a strong personal academic track record that is accompanied by experience of course development, and academic management more widely. Central to this will be an understanding of top-class pedagogy in a graduate business school environment and a genuine passion for exceptionally high quality learning and teaching.  International in outlook, it will be critical that she or he has the personal credibility to lead a global team and appreciate the nuances of working with a very large, diverse and globally dispersed student body.  Finally, candidates will need to appreciate and embrace the Edinburgh Business School ethos and student-focus.
