The new, larger department combines the Institute of Early Childhood and the School of Education both of which have excellent reputations and are highly regarded across the prior-to-school, school and wider education fields. Under the leadership of the newly appointed Foundation Head of Department the University is investing in the future of Educational Studies at Macquarie. Over the coming months we will be recruiting a number of key positions to the Department to join our outstanding academic team and help shape the future of Educational Studies at Macquarie University. This is the first group of positions on offer.

The Roles

Macquarie University is seeking to appoint three (3) suitably qualified academics to either a Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Lecturer (Level B) teaching and research position within the Department of Educational Studies. The successful candidates will engage in the full range of academic activities including teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, actively engaging in a research program and participating in University community engagement activities. We encourage candidates with the specialisations below and ability to teach in other areas to apply:

  • Literacies (early childhood/primary)
  • STEM (early childhood/primary)
  • Professional Experience (early childhood/primary)

The level of appointment will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Selection Criteria

To be considered, applicants must identify which level of appointment they are applying for (either Level B or Level C) and respond to the relevant selection criteria for that Level. Responses must be attached as a separate document in the application process.

Essential – Level B appointment:

  • A PhD or evidence of equivalent research recognition in a relevant discipline
  • A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of good quality publications relevant to stage of career
  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of lectures, tutorials, and assessment
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external stakeholders and the general public
  • Demonstrated experience to make a useful contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the Department with a track record of effective team work

Desirable – Level B appointment:

  • A demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research and a record of competitive grant successes
  • Experience and interest in interdisciplinary research

Essential – Level C appointment:

  • A PhD or evidence of equivalent research recognition in a relevant discipline
  • A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of publications in high quality journals
  • A demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research and a record of competitive grant successes
  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of programs, lectures, tutorials, and assessments
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external stakeholders and the general public
  • Experience with research student supervision
  • Demonstrated experience to make a useful contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the Department with a track record of effective team work

Desirable – Level C appointment:

  • Experience and interest in interdisciplinary research
  • Experience in the development of ongoing partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies

The positions may require a Working with Children Check Clearance.

Salary Package:

Lecturer (Level B) $96,970 - $114.732 p.a; plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

Senior Lecturer (Level C) $118,401 – 136,161 p.a, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
