Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.
The Environmental Database Specialist (Prof/Indiv Contrib II) will support the Air Force Environmental GIS Program by providing quality control checks on spatial and aspatial environmental data. Environmental GIS data and Air Force environmental databases will be evaluated for completeness and accuracy. This position will be located at the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, CO working remotely with CEMML GIS Analysts based at various Air Force installations as well as the base-level environmental program managers to complete the evaluations. A technical report will be generated documenting the results of the evaluation.
Required Job Qualifications
The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Minimum of a BS or BA degree in natural resources management, environmental science, geography, geographic information systems (GIS), history, anthropology, computer science, or related field and at least one year of demonstrated related work experience is required; course work will not be included. He or she must have demonstrated work experience applying database analysis and quality control procedures to spatial and aspatial data. The successful applicant shall also demonstrate experience in environmental-related GIS, Esri’s ArcGIS software, database management software, and geospatial technical writing and documentation. Applicant should be competent with basic Microsoft Office products. Other required qualifications are the ability to take initiative to resolve issues, attention to detail, and demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills. He or she must be able to pass the DoD background check for a Common Access Card (CAC). The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Demonstrated working knowledge of Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) especially version 3.0 or higher. Experience managing spatial data in geodatabases or Microsoft Access databases. Knowledge and experience with Air Force environmental databases (such as STAR, APIMS, WET, EESOH-MIS, etc.) and knowledge and experience with U.S. Air Force environmental programs are beneficial. More than one year of related work experience is desirable.

Job Duty Category Database Analysis
Evaluating and analyzing environmental spatial and aspatial data. Individual will provide quality control checks on spatial and aspatial environmental data. Environmental GIS data and aspatial data contained within Air Force Authoritative Databases will be evaluated for completeness and accuracy.

Providing GIS support to the Technical Support Center (TSC) as needed. Individual will be producing maps, assisting with data calls, providing limited GIS training to environmental staff, etc.

Job Duty Category Report Writing
Report writing and documentation. The individual will provide project updates and status reports. The individual will document all necessary information needed regarding the spatial and aspatial data being evaluated. The purpose is to provide status updates and ensure project goals are being met, and also to document completeness and accuracy of Air Force Environmental data for AFCEC.
