Lecturer in Arabic

Open to the world…

Durham University is one of the world’s top research intensive universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. The University sits in a beautiful, historic city where it shares ownership of a World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral, one of the greatest Romanesque buildings in Western Europe. A collegiate University, Durham recruits outstanding students from across the world and offers an unmatched wider student experience.

Join us as Lecturer in Arabic, and you will discover a wonderful intellectual and social environment in which to make a career. Here, you will explore the frontiers of knowledge.

This is an opportunity to build your career within one of the UK’s largest and most successful Schools of Modern Language. We will support you to build up an internationally excellent research portfolio, while you provide high quality teaching. You will also enjoy membership of one of our research groups, which promote and foster intellectual interaction and dialogue. Whatever your research specialism in Arabic studies - literary, visual, cultural, comparative - you will be ready to play a major part in innovative research practices and interdisciplinary enquiry.

To join us, you will need a good first degree and a doctorate in Arabic Studies or a related subject. We will expect you to have experience of high quality teaching, with the ability to teach Arabic at all levels. Indeed, you are an outstanding communicator in both English and Arabic. Crucially, you have a demonstrable ability - and plan - to carry out research with the potential to shape the disciplinary agenda or create public benefit in terms of individual, societal or economic wellbeing.

If you are an outstanding, enterprising, intellectually curious academic with ambition and a strong sense of collegiality, please do consider applying to Durham University.
