The Role

The Collections and Discovery Services Librarian develops implements and delivers services in procurement, metadata, copyright/license management, discovery and collection assessment. This role is involved in the provision on conversion services for students with print disabilities.

The Collections and Discovery Services Librarian is a member of the Collections and Content Development portfolio, which develops the relevant disciplinary collections, including firm order resource acquisition, document supply provision, course reserves and accessibility services, to support the learning, teaching and research objectives of the University, and enhance the University's research strategies.

The role provides in-depth advice and support for collection and content development, access, discovery, and research publication/data management. Data gathering, analysis and reporting – to inform decision making within the Library and to support University reporting exercises - is a key aspect of the role. The role supports service delivery through day to day work allocation and coaching, development of procedures/training materials, and delivery of training programs to build team knowledge and skill, and the provision of conversion services for print material for students with print disabilities. The role contributes to the discoverability and management of the Library's collections, and requires building and managing relationships with external vendors/suppliers, with the Macquarie academic community and with colleagues across the Library.

The successful candidate will be an individual who has an active interest in ongoing changes affecting the library environment, who takes a collaborative approach to service development and delivery, and who is enthusiastic about delivering value and continuously improving the client experience.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position you must respond to the selection criteria below and attach as a separate document in the application process

  1. Degree or equivalent experience in library, information management or related discipline; or extensive experience and specialist expertise in the library or information management or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Working knowledge of integrated library management and discovery systems, metadata creation, standards and workflows.
  3. Working knowledge of Library workflows and practice in procurement, discovery, and management of the research/scholarly communication lifecycle.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in data extraction, manipulation and statistical analysis, and the ability to use a range of software to manipulate documents, extract data and convert data between formats.
  5. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate, influence and build and manage relationships as a member of a team, with external vendors, and with internal stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and implementation of programs, products and services to meet identified information and training needs.
  7. Demonstrated ability to develop, analyse and review processes, objectives and strategies relevant to the project and maintain project documentation.

Salary Package: From $77,894 - $85,982 p.a. (Hew 6), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
