UWS School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery – the largest provider of nurse education in Scotland – offers a wide range of innovative and exciting health and social care, nursing and midwifery programmes at all levels.

The School is looking for an outstanding healthcare professor and skilful research leader with international standing in areas relevant to one of more of our research groupings namely Deteriorating Patient, Later Life and Dementia, Maternal, Child and Family Health.
You will demonstrate a commitment to applied research excellence and the creation of an inclusive applied research environment. You will be adept at team building, skilled at seeing research synergies and developing collaborative opportunities.
You will have direct experience of securing high quality research grants, achieving Research Excellence Framework 3-4* quality research outputs and 3-4* quality research impacts. Experience of leading and managing high performing research teams (staff and research students) would be an advantage.

The successful candidate for this position will also be Director of the UWS Institute of Healthcare Policy and Practice. As an experienced Professor with additional leadership responsibilities to direct the Institute, you will inspire and enable School staff and students to realise their individual and collective research ambitions through membership or association with Institute Research Groupings. You will also have the vision, personality, leadership style and networks necessary to create an enriched research culture and research learning environment with a reputation for applied excellence.

You will work closely with the Assistant Dean (Research and Enterprise) to build a dynamic, inclusive and vibrant research and enterprise culture with an international reputation in areas of distinction. Using a combination of your proven academic research leadership and excellent people management skills you will create the conditions for staff and students to achieve their research potential from their early careers to becoming outstanding research leaders.
