The Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation is an alliance between Charles Sturt University (CSU) and the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI). The Centre’s research aims to develop new knowledge for profitable, productive and sustainable food and fibre supply chains, whilst reducing the risks of natural resource degradation, thus supporting a sustainable economic future for agriculture on regional, national and international levels. The Centre’s activities are focussed around three key areas: plant systems (crops and pastures); livestock systems (sheep and beef focus); and grain and meat quality.

The Position: CSU is seeking a highly motivated scientist to carry out a research project, using piglets as an animal model, which aims to understand the effects of early nutrition in optimising neurodevelopment and cognitive function in human infants.

Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD in the field of neuroscience or molecular biology with appropriate experience and the capacity to undertake research resulting in publications in national and international peer reviewed journals. The successful candidate will possess excellent organisation skills and be able to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic team. Laboratory skills are required including experience in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy or fluorescence microscopy, western blot, ELISA, neuroanatomy and/or animal models of central nervous system disease.

The Location: Based in Wagga Wagga, NSW’s largest and fastest growing inland city and hub of the rich, inland agricultural region known as the Riverina. Wagga Wagga is rated as Australia’s most family friendly city. The region boasts stunning landscapes, excellent medical, schooling, shopping and sporting facilities. Wagga Wagga is a thriving, innovative, connected community, on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River with easy access to Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

Applicants are expected to apply online and address the selection criteria listed in the position description.
