The role and your responsibilities

The Technical Officer will assist with management and support of laboratory equipment in the biosciences facilities at RMIT Bundoora Campus. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day running of equipment including quality control, maintenance and stocking of consumables, and for ensuring the facilities and activities are OH&S compliant. You will be responsible for providing technical support, training and advice to research staff and HDR students on equipment and associated software in the designated facilities.

Scientific equipment to manage would include but not limited to:

  • BD FACSAria Fusion cell sorter
  • BD FACSCanto II cell analyser
  • Olympus stereology system
  • Olympus virtual slide microscope (VS120-S5)
  • Agilent Seahorse XFe24 extracellular flux analyser
  • Life Technologies QuantStudio 7 Flex and Qiagen Rotor-Gene Q real-time PCR systems

Skills and experience required

Your practical experience in multi-channel flow cytometry is essential, with microscopy experience being highly desirable. The ideal candidate will bring to the role your relevant experience in laboratory techniques and practices with knowledge of OH&S legislation and requirements. Your ability to plan, organise and manage multiple tasks and the ability to prioritise and complete complex tasks and reports in a timely manner will be critical to your success in this role. In addition, key to this role will be your proven problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience designing and implementing new procedures and practices.
