The Opportunity

The Faculty of Information Technology is seeking to appoint an outstanding Research Fellow to support the Australian Research Council funded project "Improvisational Interfaces". This position represents an exciting opportunity for you to develop your research expertise and contribute towards the research of the University.

The research project involves developing new forms of creative interfaces for artists and musicians to successfully improvise with computers. Working within sensiLab, an interdisciplinary research laboratory, you will be involved with developing new forms of creative interfaces for artists and musicians to successfully improvise with computers. The project's research spans creativity theory, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence and the digital arts.

The position is based at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia with the opportunity to work for periods at Goldsmiths College in London and Sony CSL in Paris.

Candidates should have a PhD in Interaction design, Computational Creativity or related area along with strong oral and written English skills and a demonstrated ability to plan and complete projects with substantial organisation and independence. The successful candidate will be expected to design and execute experiments, participate in the drafting of scientific publications and funding proposals. You must have the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

An established practice in visual arts or music is desirable.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
