Position Description

The Faculty of Divinity at Harvard University seeks to appoint a tenure track faculty member whose work addresses African American religion, with a particular interest in Christian communities within the North American context. Candidates may work in the following disciplines or fields that address black religious life and intellectual traditions constructively: religion, ethics, and politics; philosophy of religion; theology; religion, literature and culture; social, cultural, and intellectual history; and/or the social sciences. It is expected that applicants will employ forms of analysis that address race, gender, sexuality, and/or other intersecting forms of social power, such as womanist, feminist, and/or queer approaches.

Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate will work closely with students in the Divinity School’s Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, and doctoral programs, and will also have an opportunity to teach undergraduates within Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must also be competent in research languages appropriate to their specialties. The doctoral degree must be held by June 30, 2017.
