Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Environmental Studies
The School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, energetic, and innovative colleague to the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Studies. The Environmental Studies programme is a highly active research group critically engaged with environmental and geographical teaching, research and practice, domestically and internationally. The School and the Environmental Studies programme prioritise Matauranga Maori in teaching and research, and emphasize scholarship focused on Aotearoa and the broader Asia - Pacific region.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in environmental studies, geography or an allied social science, relevant publications in refereed journals and prior teaching experience at undergraduate level. In addition to developing and maintaining a strong research platform, the appointee will take a key role in teaching undergraduate environmental studies and in teaching and supervising at postgraduate level.
Environmental Studies, Human Geography, Physical Geography, Development Studies and GIS constitute the Geography programme, which sits within the broader School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences. The Environmental Science programme also works closely with the Geography programme.
The Geography Programme is ranked first equal in New Zealand for research quality in the last New Zealand Performance-Based Research Funding assessment in 2012.
The Environmental Studies programme currently focuses its work around five themes: drivers of human behaviour; indigeneity/Matauranga Maori; politics and power; policy and institutions; and urban sustainability and resilience. We welcome ideas from applicants about how their expertise might complement our current research and teaching strengths, and scholarship elsewhere in the School and the University.
Applications close Sunday, 30 October 2016.
Victoria University of Wellington is an EEO employer and actively seeks to meet its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi.
