This exciting position reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and is responsible for providing visionary leadership to the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM). The opportunity for this role is to shape and innovatively lead the NZSM to be the pre-eminent provider of musical education, research, composition and performance programmes in New Zealand, while also fostering NZ music and music from the Asia Pacific region. There is also the prospect of strategically leading new and creative projects linked with the development of the Wellington Town Hall as a music hub.

Holding a relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent, you will have a strong scholarly profile and/or performance and/or creative works portfolio relevant to the field of music. This will be combined with leadership experience ideally from a tertiary organisation or from the related professional or industry sector. Your strong professional credibility and stature in the broad sphere of music will be influential in continuing to build relationships and networks in New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region leading to the achievement of NZSM’s ambitious vision. You will be forward thinking, innovative and flexible in approach, with a strong understanding of the academic environment and a determination to succeed in driving the bold vision for the NZSM.
