The University of the West of Scotland is an ambitious, growing university and we are at an exciting stage in our development. We have renewed our academic and international focus and are growing our research and knowledge exchange. Our investment in Engineering and Computing now sees us recruiting a number of academic posts in the School. We are looking for engaged and talented individuals to make a real impact on the local, national and international communities we serve, as part of a major investment in new talent and excellence to support our growth plans. These posts are offered part-time to attract practitioners who can bring current practice into our teaching and research, a single full-time post would be considered for the right candidate.

Our taught programmes are focused on industry practice with recent graduates working in studios or founding small businesses. The School’s research is organised into a close community of industry-focused inter-disciplinary research groups such as the Centre for Interactive Creative Technologies and we have a growing international reputation.

We are looking to appoint outstanding academics who can add to our profile. Your experience will demonstrate a commitment to high quality, innovative education with a global outlook. You will augment our commercial and / or research activities, and will exhibit an entrepreneurial and collaborative mindset to enhance the impact of your work.

You should be qualified in computer animation or art, preferably with a PhD, and have experience of studio or freelance work in the subject area. Specific experience in art and drawing skills in an animation context such as storyboarding, character design or concept art and design is essential to the post. Experience of some of character animation, visual effects, games related animation/modelling and character design would be desirable.

In addition, experience in current studio practices and methods associated with these areas would be beneficial. If appropriate an early-career lectureship could be offered to a suitable candidate, with the aspirations to meet the qualifications and experience. Previous teaching and programme development experience would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will be based at our Paisley Campus with some scheduled activities at our other campus locations. The West of Scotland boasts some of the most stunning countryside and coastline for outdoor and family life. We are close to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, with its rich heritage and vibrant cultural life, and just minutes from the International airport.
