Senior Lecturer in Geoarcheology

Open to the world…

Durham University is one of the world’s top research intensive universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. The University sits in a beautiful, historic city where it shares ownership of a World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral, one of the greatest Romanesque buildings in Western Europe. A collegiate University, Durham recruits outstanding students from across the world and offers an unmatched wider student experience.

Join us as Senior Lecturer in Geoarcheology and you will discover a wonderful intellectual and social environment in which to make a career. Here, you will explore the frontiers of knowledge.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of research and teaching in the award-winning Department of Archaeology. Carrying out both field and laboratory based research, you will be an important bridge between our landscapes and bioarchaeology research groups. You will enjoy scope to engage with anything from new and emerging techniques in GIS and modelling for data integration and visualisation, through to new understanding of ancient people and their environment. Whatever your interests, you will pursue world class research and research-led education, in one of the world’s top five archaeology departments.

To join us, you will need a good first degree, relevant doctorate, and a personal research plan which supports and enhances our research strategy. Your research and publication track record indicates an ability or potential to shape the discovery agenda and create real public benefit. A flair for securing funding is also vital. We will expect you to be an ambassador for the department, with a track record of high quality teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

If you are an outstanding, enterprising, intellectually curious academic with ambition and a strong sense of collegiality, please do consider applying to Durham University.
