Lecturer in Chemistry

Open to the world…

Durham University is one of the world’s top research intensive universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. The University sits in a beautiful, historic city where it shares ownership of a World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral, one of the greatest Romanesque buildings in Western Europe. A collegiate University, Durham recruits outstanding students from across the world and offers an unmatched wider student experience.

Join us as Lecturer in Chemistry, and you will discover a wonderful intellectual and social environment in which to make a career. Here, you will explore the frontiers of knowledge.

This is your opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of research and teaching in one of the UK’s very best Chemistry departments. The department has an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and student employability. You will be instrumental to enhancing that reputation, by cultivating an internationally leading research group and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level. Here, you will enjoy the advantage of superb facilities including Hamilton, our High Performance Parallel Computer System, which has 5,000+ cores, two large parallel shared memory systems and modern GPU systems.

Together with a good first degree and a doctorate in Chemistry or a related subject, you will bring to the role strong research and teaching interests in the broad field of Theoretical or Computational Chemistry. Expertise in quantum chemistry, ultra cold molecules, soft matter modelling, biological simulation or material chemistry would be an advantage, but is not essential. A skilled and experienced teacher, your research demonstrates potential to shape the disciplinary agenda or create public public benefit in terms of individual, societal or economic wellbeing.

If you are an outstanding, enterprising, intellectually curious academic with ambition and a strong sense of collegiality, please do consider applying to Durham University.
