Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences

Open to the world…

Durham University is one of the world’s top research intensive universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. The University sits in a beautiful, historic city where it shares ownership of a World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral, one of the greatest Romanesque buildings in Western Europe. A collegiate University, Durham recruits outstanding students from across the world and offers an unmatched wider student experience.

Join us as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences and you will discover a wonderful intellectual and social environment in which to make a career. Here, you will explore the frontiers of knowledge.

This is an exciting moment to join our broad-based department, which operates at the leading edge of cross-disciplinary practice between biology, the physical and mathematical sciences, and the social sciences. As we expand the department, we are seeking Lecturers and Senior Lecturers in four key areas of research and teaching: animal cell/developmental biology; biochemistry/biomolecular interactions; molecular plant sciences; ecology and evolution. Contributing to undergraduate courses and research postgraduate training, you will make a significant impact on our development. When you join our outstanding, highly ranked department as a new lecturer, you will have little or no teaching in your first year, to establish your research programmes.

To join us, you will need a good first degree, relevant doctorate, and a personal research plan which supports and enhances our research strategy. Bringing diversity of thought to our department, you have a track record of research and publication in high quality international journals, and a flair for securing funding. We will also expect you to demonstrate a proven talent for high quality teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

If you are an outstanding, enterprising, intellectually curious academic with ambition and a strong sense of collegiality, please do consider applying to Durham University.
