Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Counselling
School of Health Professions

  • Part time, continuous position (30 hours per week)
  • Lecturer | $92k-$109k pro-rata plus 17% superannuation

The School of Health Professions is comprised of Nursing, Chiropractic and Counselling disciplines, with students completing undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our Counsellor Training Centre provides professional counselling services to the public as well as experiential training opportunities for Masters of Counselling students, who work with real clients, via a Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and Australian Counselling Association (ACA) accredited course.

The Role

The School of Health Professions is currently looking for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to fill a vacancy within the Counselling discipline.  The discipline currently offers a suite of postgraduate courses including a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, and Masters of Counselling. The School operates an on-campus community clinic which provides counselling services to the public and training opportunities for our Masters students.

This role is offered under the Clinical or Professional Practice profile. 

A Lecturer Level B is expected to be involved with the teaching efforts, scholarly research and professional activities related to the discipline, and to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the School and across the University.

Lecturer Level B the responsibilities include

  • Perform clinical supervision in individual and group settings of counselling students during their practicums.
  • Maintain clinical registration and active participation in clinical practice

Senior Lecturer is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of the discipline, to play a major role in research, scholarship and professional activities, and to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the School and across the university.

In addition to the above the Senior Lecturer role includes

  • Development of University consultancies in specialty areas where appropriate.
  • A strong research commitment to a particular area with publications and scholarly outputs

Skills and Experience

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline, and be registered or eligible for clinical registration with PACFA, ACA and/or AHPRA in Australia.  Demonstrated experience as a practicing psychologist or counsellor, as well as experience as a clinical supervisor is required.  In addition an established record of quality research and publication, and a demonstrated capacity to deliver a high standard of teaching and clinical as well as postgraduate research supervision is required. The capacity to contribute within broader academic agenda of the School will be highly valued.

While applicants with a range of clinical specialisations will be considered, expertise in trauma counselling and clinical supervision will be looked upon particularly favourably.
