Brunel University London’s College of Engineering, Design & Physical Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in the UK, with five thousand students and close to two hundred academic staff spanning five departments.  We are entering an ambitious phase of expansion and growth, focussed on key areas of strength and supported by investment in equipment and infrastructure. Building on existing expertise in bioprocessing and materials science, we now wish to establish the discipline of Chemical Engineering, completing our engineering portfolio that currently consists of mechanical, aerospace , civil and electronic and computer engineering,  We expect the new Department for Chemical Engineering to have a particular focus on energy, water and/or food processing and production, all areas of significant research activity at Brunel.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a new Department of Engineering and to mould the development of the discipline in a fast-growing and ambitious environment.

The College is seeking to appoint a Professor/Head of Chemical Engineering, who will report to the Dean of College, to provide leadership and strategic direction in the development and establishment of the discipline at Brunel. An excellent academic in his/her own right, the candidate will have experience in academic leadership, educational innovation and  world-class research in a relevant area. The applicant’s research activities will be expected to be aligned with one of Brunel’s three Research Institutes (Energy Futures, Materials and Manufacturing, Environment, Health & Societies) and it is expected that the post holder will become an active member of one or more of the research themes within these institutes.  An inspiring leader, they will offer a compelling vision for the future of Chemical Engineering at Brunel, such that they will be able to seize this opportunity to contribute to the development and future success of Brunel as one of the world's leading teaching and research universities.
