Job Description

The Associate Director of Research Safety - NEIDL (ADRS-N) is responsible for the oversight of safety in the BSL-4 and ABSL-4 facility in the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL). The ADRS-N reports to the Chief Safety Officer (CSO) and is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and verification of safety programs in the BSL-4 and ABSL-4 designed to comply with regulatory requirements and standards, safe guard of the laboratory facility, its support personnel and the environment from hazardous materials; ensure the safety and security of the select agents; and check to verify that necessary safety training is maintained for competency of personnel who access and work in the BSL-4 and ABSL-4 containment facility. The ADRS-N also acts as an Alternate Responsible Official and assists the Responsible Official in the implementation of the Select Agent program.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree required in the fields of biology, microbiology, virology, or other related sciences. Minimum 3 years of direct experience. Certification from the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) is preferred: Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) or Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP)
