The Sport & Society Reporter is responsible for reporting on issues relating to sport and society, and for producing feature stories for radio and digital platforms on sports, sports and culture, and the broad array of sports-related issues in our community. Act as the primary sports reporter for WBUR local news, covering the major sports stories such as playoffs for the major professional sports teams. Make contributions when appropriate to WBUR's Only A Game and the station's other programs and platforms, including but not limited to Here & Now, On Point, Radio Boston, and WBUR.org. Responsible for the complete execution of radio stories, including conducting interviews, writing scripts, voicing stories, and editing material (including audio). Additional duties include developing sources, contributing daily and weekly story ideas while assisting the Managing Editor and News Director, and participating at daily editorial meetings. Assist in writing for the web and producing web assets for all WBUR digital platforms. The work schedule assigned by the News Director and Managing Editor will deviate from a normal Monday-Friday 9-5pm schedule. This position is a 32-hour-per-week position.
Bachelors degree required; must be able to edit audio tape and must have experience working with field recording equipment and in web production; must possess an outstanding knowledge of sports in general and Boston sports history, and must have other broad interests and be well read. The ability to work as a team member on numerous tasks simultaneously and under daily deadline pressures is a must.
