Position Summary

A Cultural Resources Specialist (Research Associate II Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. This position is funded for 12 months.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. BS/BA degree in historic preservation, history, anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field is required, and more than three years of professional experience in cultural resources management or related field. The successful applicant must have knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the protection and preservation of cultural resources, e.g., the National Historic Preservation Act. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills, the ability to pass a background/security check are necessary. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

MS/MA degree in historic preservation, history, anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field is desirable with little or no post MS/MA experience. Prior experience in all aspects of cultural resource management, including historic property inventories/surveys, National Register eligibility evaluation, as well as cataloging, data compilation, and report generation activities, are beneficial. Experience in museum studies and/or archival records management is desirable. Experience working in highly structured organizations such as governmental agencies, the military or corporations with established lines of authority, procedures and protocols is also desirable.

Provide general assistance to Hill AFB’s cultural resource management (CRM) program, which includes historical and archival research, assistance in preparing historic preservation planning documents and Environmental Assessments, assisting with reviewing work order requests affecting historic properties, assistance with preparing Utah historic building inventory forms, and general support in analyzing, summarizing, and/or reviewing cultural resource data.

Curatorial Duties


Tasks for the Cultural Resources Specialist include assisting the installation’s Cultural Resource Manager with collections archiving including accessioning and cataloging new collections and packaging of collections to meet the standards identified in 36 CFR §79. Assistance with maintaining artifact inventory databases to include new and existing collections as well as site data information, and moving materials between storage areas are additional duties.

Assist Cultural Resource Manager and Records Custodian with development, maintenance, management, and organization of cultural resources databases and associated files. Responsibilities may also entail clerical duties for managing cultural resources electronic and paper records.
