The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant & Food Research) and disciplines, leading a "NZ Inc" approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Officer to join our Food Structure team. This full-time (37.5 hours per week) position is fixed-term for two years. This position is based at our Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.

The successful candidate will conduct pioneering research to understand the digestion behaviour of various food products using in vitro dynamic digestion models. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams across the CoRE programme to enhance our understanding of the relationships between food structure, digestion, nutrition, and health.

The successful candidate will have:

A PhD in Food Science and Nutrition, Food Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry and Physiology, or related disciplines Demonstrated experience in dynamic in vitro digestion models Proficiency in using analytical tools such as chromatography (HPLC, GC), mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and spectroscopy for analysing digestion products Strong skills in statistical analysis and data interpretation Skills in data modelling (desirable) Effective communication and problem-solving skills Enthusiasm working with an interdisciplinary team Salary will be aligned with the Research Officer range, $81,172 - $103,595 (2024 range), commensurate with skills and experience.
