About the opportunity

The Aunty Bea Ballangarry Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to join the Faculty of Health as an academic, conducting research for the iSISTAQUIT Scale up Project which provides evidence-based training in smoking and vaping cessation care for health professionals supporting pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The project currently aims to determine the best implementation science strategy to embed the iSISTAQUIT intervention into usual care.

The Aunty Bea Ballangarry Research Fellowship will conduct innovative research for the iSISTAQUIT Scale up Project and Birthing on Country and undertake relevant engagement and service activities in support of the Project as it expands its reach into partner and family-based initiatives. As appropriate the Position will also contribute to the research profile of the Faculty through their publications.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct high level research as part of the iSISTAQUIT Scale-Up Project and Birthing on Country.
  • Support the SISTABIRTH project, which explores Birthing on Country strategies in diverse settings
  • Engage with stakeholders and undertake relevant community and professional engagement to support the implementation of smoking and vaping cessation strategies.
  • Undertake research/scholarship activities that align with the Projects profile and priorities, and actively seek, obtain and manage research funding.

About you

This is an Indigenous identified position. Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

You will be passionate Indigenous health research and have a strong background in health-related projects. More specifically, you will have:

  • A relevant PhD and a growing profile in research in the discipline area.
  • Evidence of an emerging research and publication track record commensurate with opportunity.
  • Strong engagement skills with the proven ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships.

Salary and benefits

  • Full-time, fixed term (2 years)
  • Located at either Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450 or Gold Coast, QLD 4225
  • Academic Level B. The base salary ranges from $110,611 - $130,814 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $153,052.
