  • Based in the Centre for Cancer Biology at the City West campus
  • Full-time, fixed term contract for 12 months
  • Commencement Salary: $80,099 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role  

In this role, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to cutting-edge cancer immunology research, contributing to projects that explore immune system responses to cancer and developing new immunotherapies for preclinical testing. Reporting to the Postdoctoral Fellow in the Allergy and Cancer Immunology Laboratory, your role will involve both laboratory work and direct clinical interactions, including obtaining patient consent and collaborating with clinicians. You will perform experiments using high-parameter flow cytometry, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques, with some work involving animals. If interested, you will also have the opportunity to develop bioinformatics skills in spatial transcriptomics. Working in a multidisciplinary environment alongside scientists and clinicians, you will apply your technical expertise, strong communication skills, and passion for translational research to help advance cancer immunotherapy. This position offers opportunities for professional growth, including contributions to publications and conference presentations.

About the Centre for Cancer Biology  

The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is an alliance between the University of South Australia and CALHN and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a brand new purpose-built building named the UniSA Cancer Research Institute (CRI). The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.  

Core Responsibilities  

  • Conduct grant-funded research under the direction of the Postdoctoral Fellow and Group Leader
  • Use advanced techniques to analyse cancerous tissue and identify inflammation mechanisms
  • Liaise with clinicians and patients to collect and study cancer specimens
  • Contribute to research publication, grant applications, and scientific meetings
  • Maintain lab procedures, ethics compliance, and collaborative relationships  

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field
  • Experience in cancer immunology laboratory methods, including flow cytometry and cell culture
  • Knowledge of immunology and cancer biology
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and independent research skills
  • Experience in research coordination, problem-solving, and project management
