About the role

The School of Security Studies is recruiting a full-time Senior Programme Officer who will provide administrative support to undergraduate programmes within the Department of War Studies. We are seeking candidates at all levels of experience with the drive and passion to deliver high quality customer service to support our strategic aims. This is an ideal opportunity to commence or further your career in Higher Education administration.

The Senior Programme Officer provides essential support to students and academics in one of our many schools, institutes & centres within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Working in a fast-paced environment, the role includes taking responsibility to resolve complex queries and issues, set-up/administration of the virtual learning environment, timetabling, the production of handbooks, using databases and Microsoft Excel to maintain accurate student data on progress and achievement, and delivering a high-quality service across the student lifecycle.

Working with colleagues to plan and coordinate a varied set of activities, you will have opportunities to further develop your knowledge of regulations and process and be part of professional networks promoting best practice. As part of the King’s community, you’ll work alongside inspiring academic staff, administrators, and students.

The postholder will line manage two Programme Officers and report to the School Programmes Manager. Professional services staff are currently working on a hybrid basis, meaning that the role holder will spend part of their working week on site at our Strand campus and the remainder working remotely.

This post will be full time and offered on an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence autonomously to a broad range of audiences
  2. Strong numeracy skills and ability to analyse complex numerical data to drive decision making
  3. Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  4. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft packages and experience in the use of databases and student records systems (such as SITS, Insight, Power BI) to provide data to a high level of detail and accuracy
  5. Experience of stakeholder management and the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner
  6. Experience of working in a customer facing environment with knowledge of how to address complaints and service setbacks in a professional and efficient manner
  7. Ability to balance completing priorities under pressure and comprehend complex situations quickly
  8. Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace

Desirable criteria

  1. ​Experience of working in a Higher Education setting
  2. Experience of using virtual learning environments
