About Us
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a leading centre for mental health and neuroscience research in Europe. Research from the IoPPN has made, and continues to make, an impact on how we understand, prevent and treat mental illness, neurological conditions and other conditions that affect the brain. The Centre for Research in Eating and Weight Disorders (CREW) is a world-leading clinical academic group that aims to advance knowledge of the psychobiological, genetic and social causes and consequences of eating and weight disorders, and to use that knowledge to develop new and better treatments.
The EDIFY consortium (EDIFY = Eating Disorders: Delineating Illness And Recovery Trajectories To Inform Personalised Prevention And Early Intervention; https://edifyresearch.co.uk/) is funded by the UKRI.
About the role
This is a fixed term, full-time post at the Centre for Research in Eating and Weight Disorders.
This post involves working across workstreams 3, 4, and 5 of the UKRI-funded EDIFY consortium (EDIFY = Eating Disorders: Delineating Illness And Recovery Trajectories To Inform Personalised Prevention And Early Intervention: https://edifyresearch.co.uk/). EDIFY consists of six integrated workstreams (WSs). WS3 (Recovery) and WS4 (Illness Stages) have been combined into the STORY study, which assesses the recovery trajectories of a clinical cohort of young people with different eating disorders (EDs). STORY gathers data over one year from activity monitors and smartphones, alongside questionnaires, to understand how symptoms change and explore illness stages by assessing biological, psychological, and social factors which may change from early to later stages of EDs.
WS5 (Prevention and Early Intervention) aims to develop new interventions that are tailored to different illness stages and individual characteristics. Specifically, WS5 involves a randomised controlled trial of non-invasive brain stimulation (intermittent theta burst stimulation, iTBS) in young people with persistent anorexia nervosa (the RaISE trial).
The post-holder will be part of the EDIFY team, led by Prof Ulrike Schmidt. The post-holder will be involved in the recruitment and data collection for WSs 3-5. Baseline and follow-up assessments focus on establishing an in-depth biopsychosocial profile of participants using questionnaire, neurocognitive, and neuroimaging measures. The post-holder will manage and support participants throughout their study period and will be trained in the administration and protocols of iTBS. The post-holder will also support other aspects of day-to-day running of the EDIFY programme including database management and data analysis, writing papers and reports, and attending meetings.
The post-holder will report to Prof Schmidt but will also work with other EDIFY academics, research staff and students. Excellent time management, attention to detail, communication skills and organisation will be essential. The successful applicant will have excellent quantitative and neuroscience skills/knowledge.
