The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM) is the largest Faculty at King’s College London, with over 2,000 staff and an annual turnover of nearly £300m. Spanning four campuses, the Faculty is internationally renowned for its excellence in biosciences and medical education, as well as its world-leading research in basic, translational, and clinical science.
About the role
The Senior Finance Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting the Head of Finance Operations in delivering high-quality financial management across the Faculty. This position ensures robust financial planning, governance, and operational finance processes that underpin the Faculty’s research, education, and strategic objectives.
In this post, you will be responsible for assisting with financial planning and reporting, ensuring that resources are effectively allocated to support academic and research activities. You will provide financial analysis, variance reporting, and budget monitoring to inform decision-making at all levels across the Faculty.
Beyond financial oversight, the Senior Finance Operations Manager plays a crucial role in training and supporting Faculty staff on financial procedures, ensuring compliance with university policies and financial regulations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to contribute to the success of a leading Faculty within one of the world’s top universities. The post is normally hybrid working, as business requires, mainly working on the Guy’s campus with some meetings in other locations.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Working towards, or hold a professional accountancy qualification of a professional body (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to communicate finance matters to non-finance staff
- Experience of providing accurate, timely and understandable financial information to management and senior staff
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence others
- Excellent teamwork skills, a flexible ‘can-do’ attitude, and a strong commitment to stakeholders
- Strong IT and data management skills, interpreting and manipulating large data sets
- Highly effective coordination, organisation and time management skills to ensure project timelines are met
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on practical and effective solutions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a university or research environment
