About the Role
The Research Associate or Fellow will contribute to grant-funded research under the broad direction of the laboratory head within the Gene Regulation in Cancer Laboratory, utilising their expertise in molecular and cellular biology to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses. The grant funded projects include using molecular and cell biology techniques to investigate the functions of splicing factors and alternative splicing events in cancer progression.

The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is an alliance between the University of South Australia and CALHN and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a purpose-built building in Adelaide’s Biotech and Medical Precinct.? The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.?
Core Responsibilities
- Contributing to the planning and design of research, including drafting proposals and research grant applications
- Conduct high-quality research projects independently or under limited supervision
- Maintaining comprehensive records of work performed and research results
- Drafting reports, abstracts, scientific papers, and other documents to contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge
- Attending seminars and conferences to engage the broader industry
Essential Skills and Experience
- A PhD in a biochemistry or biomedical related discipline, or relevant tertiary qualifications
- Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, such as RNA splicing and using CRISPR tools
- Demonstrated industry participation, including relevant research publications and conference presentations
- High-level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of animal ethics guidelines, biosafety requirements and procedures
