About us 

King’s Professional & Executive Development (KPED) is a central directorate and business owner of Professional Education at King’s. We work with King’s faculties to deliver Professional Education to a global audience, partnering to design, develop and deliver open and bespoke educational programmes in line with King’s Vision.  Our multimodal programmes include Continuing Professional Development, Executive Education, professional degrees and increasingly, stackable micro-credentials.  We are a small, high-powered team in an exciting area of growth and development for King’s College London.  Our portfolio is growing rapidly and expanding to include opportunities afforded through public tender, international consultancy, and market foresight.  

About the role 

KPED is recruiting a Business Development Manager with experience and a background in business development, financial negotiations, contract review, budgeting, people and project management. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand the purpose and context of existing contracts as well as foster innovation and build networks to support business growth. While leading a small team, the postholder will be responsible for creating and maintaining a pipeline of activity and as a senior member of the directorate, will also be responsible for creating effective mechanisms to support and enable such activities to 1) run efficiently 2) extend the King’s portfolio and 3) build King’s reputation and brand.

The role is primarily based at King’s Strand Campus; however, the post holder may be required to travel to other locations on occasion, be prepared to attend events in the evening/at weekends and may be required to undertake national and international travel. All team members can work remotely for part of the week if they wish to do so, subject to the demands of the post.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria  

  1. Professionally qualified with a relevant degree/postgraduate qualification, plus a broad management experience in similar or related roles 
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the Higher and Professional Education marketplace and current trends in the UK and Internationally 
  3. Proven experience of business development and generating new leads, in an education environment    
  4. Experience of managing projects and working in teams. 
  5. Strong commercial awareness and financial planning skills 
  6. Working knowledge of contracts, intellectual property and other commercial considerations 
  7. Proven influencing, communication, and negotiation skills across a diverse range of stakeholders and situations 
  8. Experience of tender and proposal writing and public procurement processes

Desirable criteria

  1. Additional and related professional qualification    
  2. Experience of programme development and delivery 
  3. Project management qualification and/or use of project management software/tools/CRM
