About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Arts aims to build a law discipline that is unique in Australia in its proximity to and engagement with the legal profession. The Faculty believes it is their purpose to educate and equip outstanding legal practitioners for practice, and is seeking up to two Lecturers or Senior Lecturers to contribute to deliver exceptional education and advance research in the field of law.

The Faculty are able to structure these roles to promote ongoing and substantive connection to practice and/or research leadership and capability building. This may mean flexibility with respect to periods of leave for ongoing embedded professional activity or fractional and join appointments.

If you have a passion for the Law, for the translation of insights from practice into dynamic legal education and thought leadership and the preparation of our next generation of practice leaders – this appointment may well be for you!

About you

You are a passionate academic with expertise in law and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Whether you’re an emerging leader (Level B) or an established scholar (Level C), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of legal education at Southern Cross University. To succeed in this position, you will have:

  • A doctoral qualification in Law or a related area or an equivalent combination of relevant training, knowledge and experience.
  • A strong record of teaching excellence in legal education, including experience in blended and online environments.
  • Demonstrated research achievements relative to level, including publications in high-quality journals and success in securing grants.
  • Ability to engage with and build relationships with industry and community stakeholders.
  • For Senior Lecturer: Proven leadership in curriculum development, research supervision, and academic governance.

Salary and benefits

Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. These positions are:

  • Full-time, continuing (permanent)
  • Located at either Gold Coast, QLD 4225 or Lismore, NSW 2480. Generous relocation support available.
  • Academic Level B or C. The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.
    • The base salary for Academic Level B ranges from $110,611 - $130,814 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $153,052.
    • The base salary for Academic Level C ranges from $134,848 - $155,046 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $181,404.
