 About the Role 

The team at the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work will commence working on the impactful grant-funded project Trauma Aware School Village: Tackling Childhood Trauma in Schools. Childhood trauma is endemic in schools, there are children with complex trauma in most classrooms. This project will inform the development of a framework for implementing trauma-informed programs in Australian schools that can effectively prevent and respond to childhood trauma and meaningfully improve children’s mental health and wellbeing.

We are looking for both a Research Fellow (Quantitative) and a Research Fellow (Qualitative) to join the team to get this project underway.

Some of the key responsibilities of the two positions are:

  • Actively contributing to the research project by collaborating with the Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Independently contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in the collection of data, contributing to the writing and editing of grant applications and attending seminars, meetings and conferences.
  • Playing a lead role in coordinating, planning and executing the project tasks required to collaborate with industry partners.
  • Independently contributing to ethical, high quality and innovative research and evaluation through activities such as scholarship, publishing in recognised high quality journals and assisting with the preparation and submission of bids for external research funding.
  • Potential supervision of honours and postgraduate research projects.

About You

Research Fellow (Quantitative)

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant social or behavioural science: e.g. psychology, social work or education.
  • Demonstrated research experience in terms of publications in high-quality publications, attraction of external competitive grants and presentations at a national and/or international level broadly within social inquiry and wellbeing with a focus on trauma in children, parents/caregivers or educators.
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative research methods such as survey development using Qualtrics, repeated measures design and analysis, quantitative analysis using software packages (ideally SPSS), running and reporting of inferential statistics (correlations, regressions, MANOVAs). 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills and experience in collaborating and engaging with diverse stakeholders and industry partners including children, parents, teachers and schools.

Research Fellow (Qualitative)

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant social science, e.g. sociology, social work or education.
  • Demonstrated research experience in terms of publications in high-quality publications, attraction of external competitive grants and presentations at a national and/or international level in child, youth and education studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative research methods including ethnography, focus groups and interviews and qualitative data analysis using NVivo.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering project targets on time.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute data collection and social analysis.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills and experience in collaborating and engaging with diverse stakeholders and industry partners including children, parents, teachers and schools.
