JOB DESCRIPTION:

Overview: As the Head of Department, you will lead and inspire a diverse team of scholars, researchers, and educators in the field of Chinese Studies. You will be responsible for the department’s academic, research, and administrative functions while fostering a collaborative and dynamic environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide academic leadership and direction to the Department of Chinese Studies.

Provide support to the faculty members to achieve the aims and learning outcomes for the department.

Ensure the programme(s) adheres to the University's teaching and learning strategy and associated policies, practices and processes are implemented.

Ensure the programme(s) comply with auditing, quality assurance and risk management procedures both internal and external.

Act as point of contact and ensure effective liaison with other departments for all matters relating to the delivery of the programme(s).

Support for continuing professional development of staff.

Maintain relationships with external bodies, alumni and industry as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:

A Ph.D. in Chinese Studies or a related field.

Proven track record of excellence in teaching, research, and academic leadership. Substantial experience in academic administration and strategic planning.

Strong publication record in reputable journals and evidence of impactful research. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

A global perspective and understanding of the evolving landscape of Chinese Studies.
