Role Description

We are inviting applicants passionate about Indoor and Environmental Mycology to join our new Magan Centre of Applied Mycology (MCAM) as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

The Applied Mycology Group recently secured funding for the creation of the MCAM expected to grow from four staff to 36 by 2031-32. As part of the creation of the new centre, we are growing our team and are recruiting outstanding academic talent to support the expansion of the centre to develop 5 new core areas of our research and teaching within our Environment and Agrifood subject areas.

About the Role

Your role will be to deliver postgraduate teaching, research, consultancy and training in a national and international arena.

About You

You will have a degree qualification in the relevant scientific discipline or equivalent significant experience, in-depth technical know-how in the relevant scientific area gained over a significant number of years. Your research area will cover the different means and methods to detect and identify indoor fungi and to characterise their ecological and physiological requirements for growth in the built environment. You must understand the complex interactions between humidity, indoor environment and fungal growth in building materials, constructions and buildings.

You will demonstrate a substantial research output in your field and accelerate your knowledge into the indoor environment to foster international collaborations, high-quality research proposals and funding bids.

Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure and to strict deadlines to meet key milestones whilst ensuring excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills will be required.

Talented researchers and academics, who are enthusiastic about research in Indoor and Environmental Mycology, have a PhD relevant to the area, want to make a difference with your industry partners, and are keen to be part of a dynamic and professional team, are invited to apply.

You will be able to demonstrate a promising track record of achievements, including generating income appropriate to your research area and career stage including significant publications (as main author) in the leading international peer-reviewed journals of your respective field. You will be expected to develop and build long-term relationships with industry, science programmes and professional bodies.

To be successful in this role you will be comfortable with change, willing to work flexibly, and open to new ways of doing things. Importantly, you will be able to collaborate with and influence people and build relationships quickly, and you will be eager to play a full role in the fast-moving and exciting MCAM project.
