About Us
The Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine is one of the largest and most successful centres for biomedical research and education in the UK, with an annual turnover of more than £280m. About the role
The Senior Business Development Manager will be an important enabler of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine’s (FoLSM) growth and financial sustainability strategy.
FoLSM has recently launched major new partnerships with the Southern University of Science & Technology (SUSTech) in China for delivery of joint undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering, and a branch campus at the University of Portsmouth for delivery of the MBBS Medicine programme.
The post holder will work with academic colleagues to develop new local and international education partnerships that generate significant new income streams for the FoLSM.
The post holder will also support the identification, development and implementation of major new business and income generating opportunities in London and the UK, including third stream income generation and opportunities for commissioned research.
Reporting to the Faculty’s Director of Operations and working closely alongside the Senior Vice Dean for Academic Strategy & Partnerships, the Dean of Bioscience Education, and the Dean of Medical Education, the post holder will deliver strategic initiatives that align with FoLSM and university goals.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Minimum level 6 qualification in a relevant subject, such as an undergraduate degree or equivalent, plus substantial work experience in relevant posts with management responsibilities OR extensive work experience in relevant business development posts with progression to increasingly demanding jobs with management responsibilities
- Proven successful experience in business development and partnerships building, along with success in securing substantial new income streams, preferably in the higher education sector
- Clear understanding of the international life sciences and medicine landscape and potential for partnership building and commercial collaboration
- Clear and concise communication and presentation skills appropriate to local and international audiences, with a demonstrated appreciation of cultural context
- Proven ability to oversee, manage and negotiate with internal and external senior stakeholders and partners
- Collaborative working style and an ability to work with a wide range of people in a matrix structure
- Adaptable, innovative, and results-driven approac
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate or professional qualification in an area related to the post (eg Business Administration, Marketing, Life Sciences, or Medicine)
- Established international networks in the life sciences and medical communities
- Proficiency in market research and associated data analysis tools
- Knowledge of education programme development
