The overall objective of this lecturer position is to contribute to the design, development and delivery of the Veterinary Medicine undergraduate programme in the School of Science and Computing at South East Technological University, Waterford Campus in conjunction with Teagasc Kildalton Agricultural College and support the establishment and operation of veterinary clinical training via the Veterinary Distributed Clinical Network. The lecturer will contribute their knowledge of veterinary anatomy and/or physiology to the development, teaching and assessment strategies for our programme. Key Responsibilities/ Duties
Duties: Lecturer
The appointee will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment and academic administration. The appointee should carry out such duties as are assigned to them in accordance with collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science including but not limited to:-
- Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by the management of the University, day or evening, up to 560 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students where appropriate. There will be a norm of 16 class contact hours per week, which may be varied by University management from 14 to 18 following consultation with the Lecturer. A weighting will apply to hours worked after 6 p.m. (These arrangements are subject to collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science).
- Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examinations work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities;
- Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development; and course co-ordination.
- Engaging in research, consultancy and development work as appropriate;
- Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management;
- Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management;
- Engaging in promotion including student recruitment as appropriate;
- Promoting scholarship;
- Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements;
- Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department/school and of the University;
- Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work. When a Lecturer is supervising a Tutor/Demonstrator a reduction in teaching hours will be applied on the basis of a one hour reduction per three hours demonstration/tutorials supervised.
The performance of these duties will require attendance in addition to class contact hours during the normal working week.
The appointee shall carry out the lawful instructions of the President or authorised Officer and comply with the requirements and regulations of the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

Academic Qualifications
Essential
- A relevant Level 8 Honours degree or equivalent in a veterinary anatomy/physiology related discipline.
AND - A relevant Level 9 Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in a veterinary anatomy or physiology related discipline.
OR - A veterinary medicine qualification registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in veterinary/clinical education. A Level 10 qualification is strongly preferred in a veterinary anatomy/physiology related discipline.
Experience
Essential
- At least 5 years post-qualification experience.
Desirable
- Post qualification lecturing/teaching experience. Development and delivery of modules and/or programmes for third level education. Blended learning delivery experience. Experience in veterinary clinical practice. Relevant research experience.
Specific Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Veterinary anatomy and/or physiology.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Veterinary education programme accreditation requirements and curricula.
- Research methods.
- Veterinary clinical knowledge.
I.T. Skills
Essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Use of modern literature search and reference management software tools.
- Use of virtual learning environments such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canva.

Salary
The gross salary scale applicable to the post of Lecturer is: €66,252 - €102,509 p.a. (as at 01/10/2024).
