About the Role

The Technical Officer - Healthcare Simulation based in Renmark, has a state-of-the-art clinical skills simulation space and plays a vital role in providing simulation support in the Riverland. The Technical Officer will support topics in nursing and health sciences and requires working closely with another team member, to allow for coverage of laboratory support during the semester.

The role will be responsible for preparing the laboratory environment clinical skills workshops in accordance with university course requirements liaising when applicable with the Senior Manager, Healthcare Simulation and wider team. More specifically, the Technical Officer will provide technical advice, demonstration of equipment, techniques and procedures when required during practical classes.

The incumbent will ensure the maintenance requirements are followed in accordance with relevant policy and legislation and maintain, monitor and supervise stock control for smooth operation of all programs.

This role also requires:

  • Assume the functional responsibilities of the Team Leader and/or Laboratories Manager in their absence.
  • Liaise and collaborate with manufacturers, industry partners and company reps to ensure product support, maintenance and troubleshooting is managed with minimal impact to students’ experience.
  • Collate, record, report and resolve IT, AV and simulation equipment faults to minimise interruption to student learning.
  • Maintain current records relating to simulation information including products, licences, software versions etc. ensuring specialised simulation equipment is regularly updated to latest versions
  • Provide education, advice and instruction to staff on simulation equipment functions and capabilities to ensure effective and safe operation.

Your experience working with new and emerging simulation technologies and your ability to use initiative, highlight your enhanced problem-solving skills whilst prioritising competing deadlines. With excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, you build and maintain effective collegial relationships at all levels within the organisation and with external stakeholders and customers alike. Your effective leadership and supervision of staff demonstrate your ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse or midwife with the AHPRA and possess a current practicing certificate or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and training relevant to the position.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, including management of hazardous substances.
  • A high level of attention to detail and organisational skills, with a willingness to work flexibly.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or teaching laboratory environment.
