The following position is to be filled in the Faculty of Humanities II, Institute of Sports Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg as of 01.10.2025:
W2-Professorship
Sports Science with a focus on "Training and Health"
Tasks:
You will assume professional responsibility for the field of sports science with a focus on “Training and Health” in research and teaching in its entire breadth and depth. In terms of content, the professorship will deal with interdisciplinary training, nutrition and health science theories, models and concepts for increasing, maintaining and restoring athletic performance and health and transforming their findings into practice. The ability to connect to the university's research profiles “Transformation” and/or “Knowledge Cultures and Education” is expected. Furthermore, the professorship supports the theoretical and practical areas in the fields of movement and sports as a specialist contact person. It is expected that the professorship will actively contribute to increasing the amount of third-party funding in the Institute of Sports Science, as well as increasing its national and international visibility. Furthermore, participation in academic self-administration and collaboration in committees is expected. The tasks arise from § 34 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt.
The professorship is involved in teaching the following degree programs:
- Teaching degree in sport for grammar schools, secondary schools, special schools and elementary school
- Bachelor of Sports Science 120/90/60 LP
- Master's degree course in Sport and Nutrition (course management)
- Master's degree program in Applied Sports Psychology
Requirements:
We are looking for a person with outstanding academic qualifications and a particular aptitude for academic work in the fields of training science and health-related topics. Applicants must fulfill the appointment requirements according to § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt. In particular, the prerequisites for appointment are a relevant habilitation or equivalent academic achievements and pedagogical aptitude. Empirical research achievements in the field of acute and chronic adaptations through training with an increasingly health-oriented interpretation in therapy and nutrition are also required. Excellent language skills in German and English are also required. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects and in interdisciplinary cooperation is desirable.
