The Academy of Music (https://mus.hkbu.edu.hk/web/) has rapidly emerged as one of the leading institutions in Hong Kong, providing a rigorous music curriculum. The Academy currently has 12 full-time and over 100 part-time/adjunct faculty members. Following HKBU’s rich liberal arts tradition, the Academy has combined different forms of music-making and creativity with research that explores theories, histories, education, music technology, and cultures of music. The Academy has also brought together music-making and scholarly research in composition, technologies, musicology, music education, and performance. The Academy is poised to significantly strengthen its capacity for nurturing the advancement of the creative arts with the anticipated completion of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity in the spring of 2025. This cutting-edge facility will provide outstanding resources for a wide array of creative arts disciplines, reaffirming the Academy's steadfast dedication to achieving excellence. 

The Academy of Music is seeking a passionate and experienced educator for the position of Lecturer in Music Theory and Aural Training. The successful candidate will:

  • Serve as an active member of the new Pre-College Programme at the Jockey Club Creative Hub, assisting the Programme Principal for the planning, development, and execution of all teaching and training initiatives within the Programme;
  • Collaborate as part of our academic team to teach musicianship and music theory courses at the undergraduate level; and
  • Serve the university community through activities such as committee membership, academic advising, and mentorship of students.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in music (PhD, DMA, or equivalent) and have collegiate teaching experience. Extensive understanding of and connections within the local music education community are preferred.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one to two years commencing as soon as possible. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
