About the Role

The Research Fellow will conduct research in the field of Neuroscience under the guidance of the Head of Laboratory, Prof. Damien Keating. Collaborating with Prof. Keating and the research team, the position will play a key role in project design, implementation, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication.

The incumbent will be expected to actively contribute to advancing the research program, producing high-quality publications, and delivering conference presentations. Additionally, the role involves supporting the preparation of applications for external research funding. The research will focus on a novel gut-brain circuit that regulates body temperature. Opportunities to take on a leadership role with students involved in the project, in alignment with the University’s policies and standards, may arise.

About You

To be successful in this role you will exhibit:

  • Completion of a PhD in physiology or neuroscience
  • Research experience; publications in high quality publications, attraction of external competitive grants and presentations at a national/international level in a field relevant to neuroscience
  • Experience in/an understanding of quantitative research methodologies relevant to the project; secretion experiments, small animal surgery, in vivo animal work, analysis and data presentation of electrophysiological recordings, mouse behavioural analysis, molecular genetics including use or maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, optogenetics and brain histology
  • Ability to plan and execute data collection and analysis, and deliver project targets on time
  • Work effectively both autonomously and in a team environment, including the ability to provide routine direction to junior staff/students
  • Experience undertaking collaborative research and establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff and industry.

About the Flinders Health and Medical Research Building
