Introduce:
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chongqing University was established in December 2015. In response to the major demands of the national and municipal biomedical industry, the Innovative Drug Research Center was founded in May 2011. With the rapid development of the center and its strategic alignment with Chongqing University’s comprehensive reforms and the goal of building a “Double First-Class” institution, the School of Pharmacy was officially established in December 2015. The School was formed by integrating internal pharmaceutical resources and is based on the existing administrative structure of the Innovative Drug Research Center, which continues to operate as a research platform alongside the school. The “One Team, Two Signs” operation model was adopted, where the same leadership team manages both units.
The school currently employs 52 staff members, including 38 full-time faculty members. Among the faculty, 17 hold senior academic titles, 17 have associate senior titles, and 4 have mid-level titles. All faculty members hold doctoral degrees, with 30 having overseas experience.
There are currently 468 students enrolled in the school, including 65 doctoral students (including international students), 231 master’s students, and 172 undergraduates.
The school offers a three-tiered educational system, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. It has an undergraduate program in Pharmacy, a master's degree program in Pharmacy, and was granted the authority to offer a doctoral degree program in Pharmacy in 2021. In 2023, the school established a postdoctoral research station in Pharmacy. The school comprises the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics, and the Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Drug Design, and Natural Products. It has six specialized research directions: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics, Natural Product Chemistry, and Pharmacognosy. The school also hosts several research platforms, including the Ministry of Education’s Engineering Research Center for “Targeted New Drug Development for Cancer and Bacterial Infections,” the Chongqing Key Laboratory of “Synthesis of Natural Products and Innovative Drug Research,” the Chongqing University Platform for the Synthesis of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Public Service Center for Large-scale Instrumentation, and the Pharmacology Platform.
The school occupies nearly 7,000 square meters of research and laboratory space, with over 80 sets of internationally advanced research instruments and equipment, valued at more than 83 million yuan.
Currently, the school has received 57 national-level projects, 44 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 17 other vertical projects. Faculty members have published over 550 research papers in international academic journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., among others.
The school remains committed to the comprehensive leadership of the Communist Party of China, adheres to the socialist direction of education, and prioritizes the fundamental task of “moral education.” It strives to maintain its original aspirations throughout the process of China’s modernization, with the goal of establishing a first-class pharmacy school with Chinese characteristics.
