An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Laboratory Assistant to work as part of the technical team supporting the School of Cancer Sciences research activities. The duties of this full time post will include laboratory housekeeping and cleaning, preparation and distribution of stock consumables, record keeping and assisting with deliveries.
The School of Cancer Sciences conducts research into the mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression, with a focus on developing clinical treatments to control and manage the disease. The school operates across two buildings, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and a diverse range of world-class researchers.
The ideal candidate should be proactive, with good communication skills and able to work between two buildings, following standard procedures to compete routine tasks.
The candidate must have a willingness to work with a variety of waste streams (chemical, biological and recycling), distribute essential supplies and materials to researchers, and be able to assist in the routine cleaning, and maintenance of a range of basic laboratory equipment after sufficient training. The successful candidate will prepare solutions and buffers for use by research staff but will not be expected to directly support experimental work.
The candidate should have a good general education and be familiar with common computer packages such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
The School of Cancer Sciences technical team is an adaptable, proactive, and hardworking team and the ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and able to work with a wide range of people and share the team’s work ethic.
