Introduce:

The School of Big Data and Software Engineering at Chongqing University was approved for establishment in December 2001 as one of the first 35 national demonstration software colleges. It was also approved in December 2021 as one of the first 33 national distinctive demonstration software colleges. The school primarily trains high-level, interdisciplinary, practical, and internationally-minded innovative software talents. To meet the national strategic needs in big data and artificial intelligence, the school was renamed the School of Big Data and Software Engineering in March 2018. The school currently has over 60 faculty members, including 23 professors (researchers) and 24 associate professors (senior engineers). It has more than 1,000 students, including undergraduates, master's, and doctoral candidates.

The school offers a doctoral degree program in Software Engineering, as well as a postdoctoral research station in Software Engineering. In the 2017 discipline evaluation, it was rated as B+ and is recognized as a key discipline in Chongqing. The Software Engineering program was selected as a national “Distinctive Major” in 2007, as part of the national “Outstanding Engineer Program” in 2012, and was approved as a “First-Class Major” and a “Big Data and Intelligent Systems Specialty Major” in Chongqing in 2018. In 2019, the program was selected as a national-level first-class undergraduate major construction point, and in 2023, the postdoctoral research station was approved. In 2024, the program ranked in the top 10% in the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and ranked 6th in China and 21st globally in the CS Ranking. The school has won the National Teaching Achievement Award (second prize) twice, in 2005 and 2014, and has received the Chongqing Teaching Achievement Award (first prize) four times.

In recent years, the school has undertaken a series of national and local government research projects, including the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation, as well as corporate technology research and development projects. The faculty has published over 800 high-level papers and secured more than 160 invention patents. It has won over 20 provincial and ministerial-level awards, including the First Prize for Technological Invention and the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress. The school has established provincial and ministerial teaching and research platforms, including the Ministry of Education’s Key Laboratory of Cyber-Physical-Social Trustworthy Service Computing and the Chongqing Agricultural Big Data Industry Technology Collaborative Innovation Center. It has also collaborated with well-known domestic and international IT companies, including Alibaba, Huawei, and Citibank, to establish over 10 specialized laboratories and research centers.

Graduates of the school possess strong professional capabilities. According to data from the Ministry of Education’s MyCOS statistics, students in Software Engineering have consistently ranked among the top for “employment competitiveness.” Every year, outstanding students are recommended for graduate studies at top domestic institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, while some graduates go on to study at prestigious international universities like Yale University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the National University of Singapore. Most graduates secure employment at central state-owned enterprises or renowned IT companies such as Huawei, Tencent, and other leading domestic and international IT enterprises.
