PART-TIME (0.4 FTE), 1.5-YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT

Overview 

The School of Science and Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research at ECU seeks a research scientist in quantitative fisheries science, applied statistics, or statistical data science to develop models of climate velocity and marine heatwave impacts on marine species and habitats. This research will establish a robust framework for predicting multispecies distributions across Western Australian. The position contributes to a Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (JTSI) funded project titled "Advance predictions of WA marine heatwaves and impacts on marine ecosystems" and involves collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). 

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in quantitative fisheries science, applied statistics or statistical data science
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with funding bodies and stakeholders
  • Strong programming skills and experience with statistical modelling including spatio-temporal modelling and machine learning
  • A strong track record in translating research into practical outcomes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills including experience in publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams across institutions is highly valued.

Benefits & Remuneration

This part-time (0.4 FTE), fixed term position attracts a pro-rata salary based on a full-time equivalent of $113,918 - $134,596pa plus 17% University superannuation contribution. Commencement salary is usually at Step 1 of the range.
