University of East London
Founded in 1898, we at the University of East London (UEL) are proud to change lives through education. Our goal is to advance industry 5.0 careers-first education and provide a clear path to the jobs and opportunities of the future. We’re committed to driving diversity in the 5.0 talent pipeline, working in partnership to promote talent wherever it is found and creating a balanced, inclusive, and green future.
But we can't achieve this goal alone. We need forward-thinking, innovative, and curious individuals like you to join our community and help us craft our future. As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people who share your passion for creating positive change. We’re an inclusive and welcoming community that is constantly moving forward, never satisfied with the status quo.
About Us
UEL is committed to civic engagement, social justice, social innovation and social cohesion and it seeks to create and disseminate knowledge and ideas that make a difference; connecting students, staff and communities. The key orienting principles for the UEL Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) are:
- that psychological problems are best understood in a social and cultural context, and therefore
- that trainees and those who teach and supervise them, have a responsibility to be aware of and be able to reflect on, the social, professional and personal influences on their professional activities.
UEL has received funding from NHS-England to embed formal systemic training (Foundation and Intermediate level qualifications) within the DClinPsy course at UEL. All trainees will complete the Foundation level training in year 1 of the Doctorate; a subset of trainees will complete the Intermediate level training across years 2 and 3 of the Doctorate. We have submitted an application to the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT) for accreditation of both Foundation and Intermediate level embedded qualifications.
About the Job
The Systemic Pathway Lead post-holder will join the UEL DClinPsy course team, and will be responsible for:
- Leading on the quality assurance and governance of embedded Systemic training, and overseeing the ongoing AFT accreditation process
- Leading the development, delivery and governance of teaching for both the embedded Foundation and Intermediate level qualifications.
- Overseeing the clinical placement requirements of the embedded Intermediate qualification and the development and tracking of opportunities for systemic clinical practice and supervision as part of our wider placement structures.
- Offering supplementary systemic clinical supervision to trainees working towards the Intermediate level qualification, where necessary.
- Working jointly with the academic team to oversee the assessments for both the Foundation and Intermediate level qualifications, ensuring assignments effectively assess systemic skills and competencies, and liaising with the external examiner.
- Contributing to moderation of the marking of assessments related to systemic theory and practice.
- Providing supervisor workshops and reflective practice groups for placement supervisors providing (or interested in providing) family therapy/systemic practice experience and supervision.
Working closely with the rest of the course team, as well as with external contributors, to ensure that the UEL DClinPsy training programme continues to offer excellent core systemic teaching and practice opportunities, as well as upholding the specific standards required to secure and sustain AFT accreditation.
About You
- Registered (or eligible to register) as a family/systemic therapist with the UKCP and for membership of the UKCP’s College of the Family, Couple and Systemic Therapy.
- Knowledge of the AFT Foundation and Intermediate accreditation requirements.
- Experience of teaching on a UK DClinPsy programme or other UK psychological professional training programme involving family therapy/systemic practice training.
- Experience of supervising clinical psychology or family therapy/systemic practice trainees on clinical placements.
- Significant clinical experience within the NHS in the UK and of family therapy/systemic practice in the NHS.
- Commitment to supporting practice which is culturally sensitive, and which attends meaningfully to issues of power, difference and marginalisation.
- Skills and experience in leadership, project management, service design and strategy implementation.
- Clinical psychologist applicants: registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Other applicants: registered with appropriate professional organisation.
- Available to work mostly on Mondays and Thursdays, with some flexibility. (killer question)
