How this position will Make a Difference:
Health, Counselling and Disability Services at Flinders University provide a range of health and wellbeing supports to help students succeed. Flinders University is now seeking a passionate Counsellor to provide specialist counselling and support services to students who have experienced gender-based violence.
Working in a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will act as a subject matter expert on gender-based violence.
Additionally, you will:
- Offer counselling, case management, and connect students with relevant support services.
- Advise university staff on gender-based violence prevention and response and deliver group training programs and activities on supporting student wellbeing and safety.
- Conduct intake assessments, provide crisis intervention, and deliver solution-focused interventions to support students in immediate need.
About You
You are a registered Psychologist with the Psychological Board of Australia or a Social Worker eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers, with postgraduate experience and a strong background in providing specialist counselling services related to gender-based violence. You have expertise in sexual violence prevention and response, as well as experience in developing and delivering group programs.
With high-level communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, you can effectively liaise with students and staff in a sensitive and empathetic manner. You are adept at managing complex situations and you have a strong understanding of the factors affecting student wellbeing in higher education, ensuring that your approach is always respectful, and solution focused.
About the Student Life Division
The Student Life division ensures the delivery of student-centred support across the student lifecycle that underpins the University’s broader strategic visions by delivering support services and functions that facilitate and enhance the academic mission of the institution. The Student Life division provides support services and programs that contribute to the student experience and success, including in the areas of health, counselling, disability services, orientation and transition, retention, student wellbeing, and student engagement through the activities of the Flinders University Student Association.
Prescribed Conditions for Employment
- In addition, it is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check which is satisfactory to the University will be required by Flinders University before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
- SA: Staff working in a health care setting are strongly recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in line with the SA Health policy.
