Your personal sphere of influence:

Your future position is going to be at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology in the team of Prof. Dr. Peter Schweitzer. We are looking for a person with fieldwork experience in the European Arctic and corresponding language skills. Experience in research and publication on the topics of infrastructure, the built environment, tourism and climate change is desirable.

As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned scientists and students, but also different research areas, a variety of ethnographic methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative collegial exchange.

This is a full time position with 40h per week. The contract duration is limited to 21 months.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You actively collaborate in finalizing the ERC Advanced Grant InfraNorth.
  • You will be involved in other research projects in environmental anthropology and neighbouring fields.
  • You have the opportunity to develop your own research projects.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You prepare a publication of your dissertation or habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise your students.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.

This is part of your personality:

Qualifications:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in the field of social and cultural anthropology or comparable studies
  • Excellent dissertation and outstanding success during studies 
  • International publications in peer-reviewed media
  • Field research experience in the European Arctic
  • Didactic skills
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English (both at least at C1 level) and profound knowledge of another language spoken in the European Arctic
  • Team player with high social and communication skills
