About Us
King’s College London is one of the world’s leading research universities, renowned for delivering exceptional education and research that drives positive and lasting change in society. Located in the heart of London, King’s is committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where all individuals can thrive.
The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM) is at the forefront of innovative research and teaching, tackling global health challenges and improving the lives of people worldwide. Within FoLSM, the Department of Inflammation Biology houses the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, a EULAR Centre of Excellence known for its multidisciplinary research in clinical outcomes and rheumatic disease epidemiology.
The Centre for Rheumatic Diseases brings together a team of over 30 academics, research staff, and PhD students, collaborating on pioneering projects across a wide spectrum of topics. With a strong emphasis on the use of large healthcare datasets, early and late-phase clinical trials, and innovative epidemiological methods, we aim to advance understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of rheumatic diseases while improving patient outcomes.
About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Epidemiology (Non-Clinical) in the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases at King’s College London. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an early career academic with a proven track record in research to establish and develop their career within a supportive and innovative environment.
As a Lecturer in Epidemiology, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the Centre’s research portfolio, focusing on rheumatic disease epidemiology through the utilisation of large, routinely collected healthcare datasets. Your research will explore critical topics, including the phenotypic variations of immune-mediated inflammatory rheumatic diseases, disease outcomes, mental health impacts, healthcare quality, and pharmacovigilance. By harnessing advanced analytical methods, your work will shape understanding and inform clinical practice in this dynamic field.
You will work closely with Professor James Galloway and Professor Sam Norton. In addition to developing your own research programme, you will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team and external partners to strengthen the Centre’s reputation for impactful research. You will also contribute to teaching and mentoring activities, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students in epidemiology and related subjects.
This role requires a candidate with excellent analytical skills, an ability to lead research projects from conception to completion, and a commitment to ethical and open science practices. A passion for collaborative working and a vision to address pressing healthcare challenges will be essential.
Joining the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases at King’s College London, you will have the opportunity to work alongside leading experts, access extensive healthcare datasets, and contribute to meaningful research that improves the lives of individuals affected by rheumatic diseases.
Our recruitment process is designed to give candidates an opportunity to showcase their expertise and engage with our department. Candidates who are shortlisted will be invited to visit our department and present a summary of their research to date to our faculty in February 2025. This presentation will allow us to assess your academic contributions and suitability for the role.
Following the presentation, candidates who demonstrate strong performance, an impressive track record, and alignment with the department’s goals will be invited for a formal interview in February 2025. This two-stage process ensures we identify the best candidate for this exciting opportunity. We look forward to learning more about your research and career aspirations.
This is a full time role and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 September 2029.
