The Faculty of History and the Arts invites applications for a
Professorship (W3) for Bavarian History and Comparative Regional History
with special focus on the Middle Ages
(Chair)
commencing on 1 April 2026.
The professorship represents the field of Bavarian History at the History Department, covering the medieval history of Bavaria comprehensively in research and teaching, while also incorporating cross-epochal perspectives extending into the early modern period. A willingness to cooperate in ongoing research and editorial projects, both at LMU Munich’s Institute of Bavarian History and at non-university research institutions, as well as impulses for new collaborative projects are expected.
Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program.
