- Base Salary $122,830 - $145,858 p.a. (Level B) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Chemistry is seeking a Lecturer in Molecular Polaritons to work with Prof. Girish Lakhwani on optical computing applications of strong light-matter interactions.
Light can strongly couple with organic semiconductor molecules and materials at room temperature to form polaritons, which can immensely modify excited energy states and exhibit nonlinear optical properties. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Lakhwani to leverage the strong interparticle interactions between polaritons to deliver a new capability for multidimensional optical computing. Our key goals are to fabricate organic polariton devices for logic operations and manipulate chiral light-matter interactions for high-density computing and encoding. For further information, please see our website, or contact Prof. Lakhwani.
You will have access to the rich photonics ecosystem in Sydney and across Australia. You will have opportunities to collaborate with theorists, experimentalists, and our industry collaborators.
The position will:
- be 60% research, 30% teaching, 10% service
- involve research projects in polariton devices and spectroscopy
- include delivery of courses in the School of Chemistry, ideal for candidates who wish to develop their teaching track record.
Your responsibilities will include:
- experimental research at the interface of exciton-polaritons and optical computing
- dissemination of research results through publications and conference presentations
- contribution to research planning, project management, and grant writing
- mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students
- establishing and maintaining external collaborations
- teaching undergraduate courses in the School of Chemistry
- participation in professional development of teaching skills and, if appropriate, contribute to curriculum development
- administrative tasks in the School of Chemistry.
About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. We see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Lecturer in Molecular Polaritons who has:
- a PhD in physics, chemistry, or a related field
- strong conceptual understanding of exciton-polaritons in organic semiconductors
- established expertise in organic semiconductor polariton devices fabrication, such as lasers, transistors, and their characterisation, in addition to experience in polariton characterisation techniques
- a track record of disseminating significant research results through publications and presentations
- demonstrated ability to conduct research under limited supervision
- demonstrated the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams
- experience in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate research students
- excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- experience in teaching at the tertiary level in addition to the ability to teach advanced undergraduate units in chemistry
- experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives, or a willingness to learn.
Pre-employment checks
Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
